@jheneaiko Sailing Souls one musical art piece at a time

Jhene Aiko is an amazing artist, one with an abiding, deep commitment to lyrical honesty and musical integrity.  Simply put if Jhene feels it, she writes it, expresses it and sings it. There’s no pretense, no hiding, just vivid imagery, metaphors and distinctive poetic thoughts accompanied by emotion – she is what music has been missing.

What’s funny is – I have been a fan of Jhene for about 10 maybe 12 years; and with each new project that feeling is revitalized all over again. “Sailing Soul(s);” was released last year but the music is timeless from beginning to end it’s a solid mixtape that never gets old. Which is why I had to share it with you; it would be a crime not to. Check the download  under the cut!

Spilled Ink - ATL Soul: @OfTheEssence8 Covers @MonicaBrown Angel Of Mine

Nurtured between God’s word and a musically gifted family lies a woman with not only a strong vocal presence but a striking beauty aimed and ready to lay her musical imprint. Sarah Elizabeth or simply “Sarah,” is a vocalist/songwriter born and raised in musical traditions from down home gospel to gritty and impassioned anthems generated by soul icons of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s – all well before her time yet Sarah has began to map her life’s  musical journey of gospel, neo-soul, hip-hop, R&B, jazz and so much more into harmony fused sounds; which makes it difficult to define her in this category or that category instead we can only define her as an “artist.” Sitting in our office we have several recordings from Sarah and with each new recording we find the young songstress taking a new step in her career, consistently hitting her fans with something they never saw coming. Without question Sarah is a diverse mix of sounds and colors, almost always upbeat and forward thinking; perhaps it is that spiritual foundation in her, or maybe it’s her unwavering sense of determination, or her unshakeable faith that allows her music gifts to engulf the listener and take you on a musical high. Whatever the case is, she’s most definitely a breath of fresh air and we needed a deep breath.

@ThePoetChels - one of our faves here!
Yep we're  biased to those who are dope.

@teyanataylor The Misunderstanding Of Teyana Taylor

Misunderstanding n. a failure to understand something correctly – Webster’s Online Dictionary.

What a perfect way to describe the complexity that is Teyana Taylor. Is she a singer? A rapper? A dancer? An actress? Or just that  a misunderstanding. For some of us we’ve followed Teyana from MTV to the big screen, yet we are still perplexed on who she is exactly. “The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor,” takes us on a voyage through the mind of not only an artist but a fan. It’s apparent in the mixtape Teyana is a fan of Lauryn Hill, and while some critics manage to use that against her we find it endearing.

But you be the judge. Check the mixtape out    here!

RIP: Trayvon Martin

Self Defense: The act of defending oneself, ones actions, ideas etc

Attack: An aggressive and violent action against a person or place

Based on the definitions above; how is a crime self defense when you are the one in pursuit? You are the one initiating the altercation?

RIP Trayvon Martin

PS...we not trying to bring Trayvon back, we are trying to avoid joining him. Do something!
